What is innovation? Specifically, what is innovation in nursing?

I find innovation to be very broad. I find it useful to simplify innovation as the creation or implementation of an idea or service into practice for the sake of improvement.  It is that last part that can contribute to innovation being so broad. Improvement can be something that makes a process more efficient, less expensive, predictable, less time consuming, or simply more valuable to patients. Just like nursing, innovation can be found everywhere in healthcare, including functions at the bedside, in business office, IT department, policy making, and administratively. 

Innovation is how we push the profession forward and build on the shoulders of the nurses before us.
